The International Horizons Summer Program was developed to give students the opportunity to live and study abroad and to gain exposure to diverse cultures and various teaching techniques. The program sends students and their UoN staff chaperones to an overseas host institution where they complete an intensive summer program that contributes to their graduation requirements from UoN. Students who participate are able to refine their academic skills and also build self-confidence and self-reliance.

In 2013, the International Horizons program took over 100 students to 4 different institutions around the world. In France, the students completed an intensive French language study, and the students in the UK completed a similar intensive program in English, while students sent to the US participated in a of business administration program, and students that studied in Malaysia completed two academic courses and learned about Malaysian culture

During their observations of different cultures, cities, and world famous landmarks, participants saw things both new and familiar, and made observations from their own unique perspective. Students from each program had interesting and exciting experiences, the lessons of which will benefit them long after their return to the Sultanate of Oman and graduation from the University of Nizwa.
