"The talks were mainly concerned with the positive and negative effects of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes on our environment and subsequently on our health. These included alternative solutions to chemical control of pests/fungal diseases of plants and food products and environmentally safe methods of remediation using microorganisms. Additionally, the lectures expanded into areas such as pharmaceutical products and the possible ways in which the microorganisms can be manipulated to screen, isolate and enhance these products.

With regards to negative aspects of microorganisms various methods of detection of volatiles produced by microorganisms were explored.

The seminars were concluded by an advisory and useful looks at scientific writing processes in research and PhD thesis."
