EO7T5886

Royal Decree 54/2010 states that the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) is responsible for “developing and updating the Oman Academic Qualifications Framework in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and other relevant authorities.”  The Education Council issued a decision authorizing the OAAA to develop a comprehensive Oman National Qualifications Framework (ONQF) to include academic, vocational, professional and school education.

The Oman Qualifications Framework (OQF) includes different levels and qualifications in the education system, describing the principles and standards associated with qualifications and their titles to ensure consistency in qualifications throughout the country, as well as providing equivalence of standards in comparison with respected international education institutions.

The OAAA is responsible for developing and maintaining the OQF for all types and levels of education, including schooling, vocational, professional and academic higher education.  The establishment and implementation of a comprehensive ONQF for the Sultanate is expected to bring coherence to the education and training system in Oman.  This will be achieved through the integration of the various sectors into one nationally coordinated qualification system that will promote the relevant national goals of Oman. Phase one of the OQF project, initiated in May 2015, will be completed in July 2016 and phase two will commence from August 2016 to July 2017.  The OAAA hopes to launch the OQF to the sector in October 2017.

At the request of the OAAA, The University of Nizwa (UoN) hosted a briefing on Tuesday, April 5, 2015 morning for the sector in the Dhakiliya & Sharqiya regions of Oman. More than 40 OAAA invited participants attend the briefing.  A site link will soon be provided by the OAAA containing the presentations made at the briefing; once the link is published, the UoN Deanship of Quality Management (DQM) will share it with the Campus community.
