Students of Deakin University visit both states, Nizwa and Al-Hamra

As part of the cultural program for the Australian students, the Dhad Institute for TASOL organized a tourist trip to the states of Nizwa and Al-Hamra which was organized on Friday, 8/7/2018. The students started their journey and their destination to the state of Nizwa and through their visit to catch a glimpse of the traditional markets surrounded by the central market of the state where the students visited both the traditional and heritage markets such as the livestock market, and saw the market call or so-called sale of cattle. The sale of sheep and cattle are considered the most important markets in Nizwa. Then, they went to the vegetable market and knew the most important products and agricultural crops obtained from the villages near the market, after that the students went to the pottery and silver market, where they knew the most important pottery works which are manufactured by Omani hands. They also saw the most important
silver works such as the Omani dagger and some silverware worn by the Omani women in the past and present.

The visit, which was hosted by one of the supporting students of the Institute. The influence of their visit was to take advantage of some lessons assigned to them in the classroom, such as the importance of coffee and Omani hospitality in the omani majlas and being an example of originality and generosity. It is a deep heritage that is associated with the Omani people in their solution and journey and how to serve coffee and Omani hospitality, from welcoming the guest, how to sit in the majlas with the Omanis and many other customs and traditions used during
the guest's visit to the Omani House. After that, the students continued their journey to Al-Hamra. They visited the village of Misfat Al-Abriyin, one of the beautiful archeological villages in the state. They also enjoyed watching the agricultural areas and the falaj that penetrates the orchards and flows into organized and wonderful rivulets that has been distributed to the people. After that, the students went to visit the Safa house, which is considered a window to
the past, through it the students saw the real life there, customs, traditions and heritage under one roof. The old decorations in ceilings, walls, doors, beautiful design and ventilation by creating windows on two floors with views of the orchards and the falaj.

These activities and trips are part of the Arabic language program at Dhad Institute for TASOL. This is an opportunity for students to come closer to the details of life and introduce them to the components of Omani life and culture in various social, economic and tourist aspects in the Sultanate.
