Students of Dhad Institute visiting Welayats of Al Dhakhiliya Governorate
As a part of the event of the Cultural Program prepared for the Italian students, Dhad Institute for TASOL organized a tour to Nizwa and Al Hamra on Tusday, 23/1/2018 Nizwa Souk was the first destination the students headed. They visited the Traditional Souk and the place where the Omani Halwa is being made, where they were introduced to various types of the Omani Halwa, its ingredients, how the recipe is made and the importance of the Omani Halwa in the Omani society. The students also visited the Pottery and Silverware market where they were introduced to pottery that is made by the Omani hands, such as the omanis crockeries like jahla and khars. They were also introduced to silverware, such as the Omani dagger and silver costume jewelry that Omani women used to wear over the past years. The students also visited Al Shahaba Castle in Nizwa, which is one of the oldest castles in Oman and known to be unique in its large circular shape that is buried in dust. The students visited the castle sections and a were given detailed explanation about the importance of the castle. They also visited Falaj Daris, one of the biggest falaj in Oman. Then, they headed to visit one of the Omani old houses where they were introduced to the importance of the Omani coffee and Omani hospitality, which is a sign of originality and generosity. Students had the chance to know about the Omani hospitality starting from how they welcomed the guest, the sitting positions in the Omani houses, the method of delivering coffee, and other habits and traditions regarding their hospitality. Then, students got familiar with the unique Omani barbecue. The students continued their journey in Welayat Al Hamra. They visited Misfat al Abriyyin, which is one of the archeological villages in the Wilayat Al Hamra. They enjoyed the scenery of the agricultural areas and the falaj water which penetrates the orchards,that gives a source of life for the residents of the village. Then, they headed to visit the Old Village, which is an archeological mountain village that is part of Welayat Al Hamra. It is about 1,000 meters above sea level. Its known for their traditional buildings and alleyways, high mud buildings that are still inhabited, and agricultural areas that surround buildings between the mountain. On the next day of the trip schedule, the students visited Wilayat Adam, where they were welcomed by Professor Mohanna Al Sultani. The trip included a visit to Al-Busaid Mosque and some of the old interior villages that have the unique Omani architecture.The students visited some Bedouin villages to know about Bedouin’s lifestyle closely. They were also able to watch horses and camel races. They also got familiar with some authentic Omani traditions and tried to practice some of them, such as making Omani bread and wearing Omani customs.
