Dhad Institute organizes a lecture on “The reality of placement tests for non-native Arabic-speakers: Standardization and Metrology”Dr. Ghassan AL Shatter, Professor of Applied Linguistics and the Director of the Dhad Institute for TASOL, held a lecture entitled, “The reality of placement tests for non-native Arabic-speakers: Standardization and Metrology” as part of the series of seminars. The lecture goes deeply to discuss the definition of the placement test and the most internationally recognized tests, such as the American TOEFL test and British IELTS test. Dr. Ghassan pointed out to the process of the placement test, in which he talked about the major points of the main idea, placement tests for Arabic speakers and non-Arabic speakers. He also explained the role of technology in enhancing placement tests. At the end of the lecture, the director of Dhad Institute stated that “Making a placement test for those who learn Arabic as a second language is not a simple task. Resources should be enhanced before evolving the placement tests, and modern technology should be used in particular the computer so that measuring linguistic competence will be easier, more accurate, and less expensive. These seminars and lectures aim to widen the worker knowledge, which help them to achieve the goals of the programs that the institute offer. |
