32 students from USA joined DHAD institute for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages (DHAD Institute of TASOL)
Written by: Khalil AL-Hadhrami Within the joint cooperation between DHAD institute and the educational institutions concerned with teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages the institute recently received a group of students from different cultures to study Arabic, acquire skills and sciences related to it and know more about the Omani culture. Where the institute fully prepared to receive its new students by finishing all the measures related to students’ study such as visas and approvals of the Ministry of Higher Education and preparing the educational materials for them. Mr. Khalil AL-Hadhrami said, “The administration of DHAD institute pays great attention to the new students who attend the institute through setting up an induction Program including information about the university life and the different services provided by the institute. This program is considered as one of the important work which is done by the administrators and Academics in the institute throughout the academic year to promote a high level of services provided by the institute for its new students and create a good intellectual image of these services which establish a strong distinctive relationship between the institute and its students. The program started with the levelling exam prepared online for the students and then distributing them to their different levels according to their skills and educational and scientific levels. After the program, welcoming the new students followed in the campus and having a tour in the university to know more about the buildings, classes, administrative offices, library, scientific research laborites and the other facilities which help the student in his daily life in the campus.
Ms. Nuha AL-Abri –a faculty member and coordinator of academic programs- offered the presentation of the programs prepared for this group of students which includes interesting information about the nature of university life inside and outside the campus. She also included in her talk the Omani traditions and customs and the most important tourist places and historical monuments which reflect the culture of this country and its archaeological and cultural heritage in order to attract the students and encourage them to speak in Arabic. After that, AL-Abri talked about the content and details of the academic program which the academic faculty use in the institute. She talks about the evaluation mechanism which the student fill out in the end of the program in order to enhance the student’s skills and abilities and promote a high level of quality. She also talked in details about the cultural program accompanying the academic program. The program includes detailed explanation of the lectures accompanying the program, the language partner program, the calligraphy and the competition which help the international student to integrate into the society through meeting people from the local community and interchange information in various topics of life. |
