Teaching philosophy:

My teaching philosophy is a reflection of my interests in student-centered teaching that encourages learning by favouring classroom dynamics that permit dialogue and foster high degree of student input.

Brief description of research expertise and research interests:

My primary research expertise and interest is in the field of drug safety. My doctoral work was in the field of pharamcovigilance and I have attended related training programs by International Society of Pharmacovigilance, International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology, World Health Organization- Uppsala Monitoring Centre, and University of Michigan. Patient involvement in drug safety is multifactorial and is noteworthy. I am greatly interested in studying the factors influencing and outcome of drug safety at the level of patients. I have already done some studies in this field and is keen on evaluating this important issue from various angles. I am interested in assessing drug safety issues for specific class or individual drugs by intensive monitoring studies. I have completed two funded projects (The Research Council [TRC] of Oman and University of Nizwa) in the field of drug safety and drug use evaluation as principal investigator.

RESEARCH GRANT

Research Grant for USD 21000 from the University Research Council, University of Nizwa, Oman for the project `A cross-sectional study to assess the pattern of use, treatment response, patient adherence and adverse drug reactions of hydroxyurea among adult sickle cell disease patients in a regional hospital in Oman`.

Research Grant for USD 43000 from ‘The Research Council (TRC)- Oman’ for the project   ‘A study to evaluate the pattern of use of statins and their adverse effects (focus on hepatic effects) among patients in department of medicine at a regional hospital in Oman (Nizwa Hospital) ’

Best Paper Awards:

• Scientific Paper was awarded the best poster (third prize), in 2^nd Oman Pharmaceutical Conference, Oman Medical College, Muscat, Oman 17 -18 ^th of April 2013.

• Scientific Paper was awarded best (first prize) oral presentation in International Conference on Pharmacy Education in the Era of Globalization, University of Nizwa, Oman, January 24-26, 2012

• Scientific paper was awarded best poster (first prize) in the poster session of 6 th Annual conference of International Society of Pharmacovigilance, Liege, Belgium, October 11-13, 2006.
• Scientific paper was awarded as the best paper in Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and Research for the year 2008.
• Scientific paper was awarded as the best paper in Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and Research for the year 2005.
• Scientific paper was awarded best paper (third prize) in the poster session, International Conference on Health Sciences, JSS Mysore, 2005.
