Message from Assistant Dean for Training and Society services

The College of Economics, Management and Information Systems always aims at providing quality education not only in the regular and conventional class rooms, but also provides an opportunity and guidance for the students to involve in career building training. This industrial training is compulsory for all the students in all majors from the College. As per the revised degree plans, the students of all majors must undergo Internship training for 4 months with 6 credit hours. This training program helps the students to bridge the gap between theory and practice, which is implemented with approved guidelines and policies of the University. Moreover, our College has continuous interaction with the reputed Industries and organizations in Oman to place our students for the suitable training.

I take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the respected managers in those organizations and industries for providing quality training for our students and providing us timely feedback on the training. Their feedback helps us to further improve our training programs for the benefit of our students.

The professional development of the student at CEMIS is aimed to:

  • develop the human talent and potential to the maximum;
  • training them to attain their professional goals;
  • create an environment where they can face challenges and competitions; and
  • accomplish our goals faster and easier with less stress and more involvement.

Main Objectives:

  1. To give students an opportunity to apply the knowledge they acquired in their major of study to experience in the real world cases and situation.
  2. To gain practical / hands on experience to compete in the Job market.
  • Specific Objectives:
  1. To acquaint students with real world situation in their field of study.
  2. To help students in bridging the gap between theory and practice.
  3. To familiarize students with work conditions for their better future.
  4. To help students to get familiar with public and private organizations policies and regulations.
  5. To familiarize students with business environment and interactions between different public and private institutions experts to get practical experience.

Training Overview:

The College of Economics, Management and Information Systems has various activities to train the students to enhance their employability skills. The team of faculty members are involved in designing and implementing the training plan approved by the College Training Committee / College Board. The training activities are categorized as in-house training and external training. The in-house training consists of various activities such as Cultural Week Season Activities, Open Day (Entrepreneurship Skills Development, Mock Interviews, Soft-skills Development), workshops and Seminars. The External training includes Internships, Field Trips and Short-term training.

In addition to these training activities, the College also conducts competitions for Graduation Project students in order to exhibit their technical skills and knowledge. Furthermore, the graduating students of the college were trained continuously to enhance their employability skills through various training programs. The training involves the participation of Industry experts from various reputed organization.

The following are some of the major training activities conducted by the college every year.

1. UoN Cultural Week Season activities:

CEMIS always participates in the Annual Cultural Week season activities organized by the University to exhibit the talents of our students. It is celebrated with all zeal and enthusiasm by our students. The students’ groups of the College participate and organize different programs during this cultural week season activities.

2. CEMIS Open Day:

The Open Day is organized every year by the College during the UoN cultural week season. The programs were properly planned to accommodate various events and activities for the benefit of the students to enhance their organizing and Leadership skills. All faculty members of the College were involved in organizing this event for a full day with various interesting and useful activities. The successful students were recognized with certificates and awards.

3. Graduating students training Program:

The College also organizes the training programs for developing the graduating students to acquire appropriate knowledge and skills to enable them to get a suitable and satisfying career. The activities include, CV writing, Mock Interviews, technical presentations to enhance their employability skills.

4. Business Plan Competition:

During Open day, the College organizes Business Plan competition for the students of University, where the Best Business plan presentations were chosen and awarded. The students use their knowledge and skills gained through their University requirement course “Entrepreneurship creativity & Innovation” to prepare and present their Business ideas. These Business plans were evaluated and judged by the highly experienced Industry experts.

5. Field Visits:

The College field-visit committee makes a proper planning and arrangements to visit reputed industries and organizations to acquire required knowledge about actual work environment. Once the field trip is completed, the students were asked to submit a written report on their visit to the organization and their interaction with the organization experts.

6. Alumni / Career guidance:

The College is providing support and guidance to our alumni by providing suitable information about the career opportunities and the needs of the employment. The College training committee is always in touch with them to follow up their progress in the job placement.
