QUALITY TEACHING AND LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (QTLMS)

The University of Nizwa is committed to the provision of “Outcome-Based Education” and to the production of graduates demonstrating program-specific knowledge, skills and values to be able to cope with the demands of the local and international job market.  To achieve this end, the UoN developed a comprehensive pedagogical framework called “Quality Teaching Management System” (QTMS).  Driven by the UoN culture of continued quality improvement using Approach-Deployment-Results-Improvement (ADRI), the different academic units reviewed the QTMS in terms of its usefulness and effectiveness.

Thereafter, the QTMS was amended and improved to the Quality Teaching and Learning Management System (QTLMS) as outlined in the manual to integrate new and emerging aspects of quality teaching and learning.

The QTLMS is designed to achieve a developmental student-centered pedagogical framework, where students are supported through a conducive academic environment enhancing their learning with self-assessment and improvement.  The scope of this new paradigm involves students’ acquisition of knowledge and values and development of skills through a variety of academic activities that will lay the foundation for self-directed learning.

The QTLMS serves as the University’s framework for teaching and learning focused on high quality evidence-based teaching and learning process ensuring that effective teaching and learning are being instituted in order to achieve a rigorous culture of education.

THE QTLMS:

• Highlights different aspects of quality teaching and learning, such as curriculum, instruction and academic assessment.
• Provides well-defined guidelines, procedures and forms used to carry out quality teaching and learning in the University as well as monitoring and improving students’ performance.
• Institutes control, monitoring, review and evaluation of the effectiveness of the teaching and learning management system of the University ensuring that continuous improvement activities are identified and addressed.
• Contains the teaching procedure, implementation and quality management of teaching and learning, the role of faculty and students and the responsibilities of all concerned stakeholders.
