The English Section focuses on training students in language, literature, translation, and education and offers programs leading to:

•          MA in English Language and Literature
•          MA in English Language and TESOL
•          MA in English Language and Translation
•          Bachelor of Arts in English and Translation
•          Bachelor of Education in English
•          Diploma in English and Translation
  

The English Section lays emphasis on

• The active role of students as the hub and focus of the educational process
• Student critical thinking, creativity, and initiative
• Technology-assisted learning
• Conversation as a way of developing proficiency in languages

The English programs have been designed keeping in mind the increasing demand of graduates in these disciplines in the Omani job market. B.A. and B. Ed. students have a wide variety of occupations to choose from, ranging from teaching in schools, Civil and Public Service positions in Government Ministries, Marketing, Advertising, Tourism, Journalism, Embassies, law firms, and multinational companies.

Moreover, holders of Bachelor degree in English & Translation/Education have the option of pursuing Graduate studies, not only to be able to teach at Omani colleges and universities but also to occupy higher administrative and executive positions in the above sectors. Since their success depends on the level of command and fluency that a Bachelor’s degree holder is supposed to have, both in spoken as well as written English and communication skills, the English Section is committed to producing a human resource equipped with such skills and expertise to meet the rising challenges in the increasingly competitive job market, both locally and regionally.

At the dawn of the 21st century, the world has witnessed a tremendous period of globalization, and with advances in communications, the concept of a 'global' village is quickly becoming a reality.  English is uniquely positioned as one of the most important languages of interaction, communication and correspondence in all fields of human endeavor such as business, economics, politics, government, diplomacy, research and scholarship, both English & Translation and English & Education degrees are undoubtedly among the high-demand skills in the country, the region and the world. The English graduates are just prepared for that and thereby for taking the country forward as a member of the family of nations in the world.
