Peer Tutors will be required to fulfill all criteria of the hiring process prior to being hired to work at LEC.
Peer Tutors must have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0. The peer tutor must submit verification of their G.P.A. grade from their Academic Advisor to the Director of TWC&LEC.
Peer Tutors must have a minimum score on the TOEFL examination of 480. The peer tutor must submit verification of their TOEFL score from the Department of Records and Registration to the Director of TWC&LEC.
Peer Tutors must write a 5 paragraph essay in the proper format on the topic “Why I Want to Work at the Writing Center (Learning Enhancement Center)”. The essay must be typed using Microsoft Word, no hand written submissions will be accepted.
Peer Tutors must have a 15-minute interview with the Director of TWC&LEC to evaluate the peer tutor’s competence in English. Interviews will not be offered to prospective tutors until they have completed the first 3 steps of the hiring process.
Hiring Process of Peer Tutors:
Fill in the application form for the position to work as a peer tutor at TWC&LEC. Applications can be obtained at the Student Support Fund Office or at the Writing Center front desk.
Obtain a letter of verification from the Department of Records of Registration indicating that your TOEFL score is 480 or above and that your G.P.A. is above 3.0.
Submit the application to the Director of the Student Support Fund to ensure that you qualify for the position. If approved, your application will be returned to you with a stamp, and you will be directed to go the Writing Center to finish the final stages of the process.
Write your 5 paragraph essay on “Why I Want to Work at the Writing Center (Learning Enhancement Center)”. All essays must be typed; handwritten submission will not be accepted.
Submit your stamped application from the Student Support Fund Office, along with your essay to the administrative desk at the Writing Center. An appointment with the Director of TWC&LEC will be granted for a formal interview to further determine your English proficiency and ability to work at TWC&LEC.
Duration and Conditions of Terms of Employment for Peer Tutors:
Approved students will be permitted to work at TWC&LEC as a Peer Tutor on a continuing basis pending a semester review of performance, a formal observation and evaluation of tutorial effectiveness, attendance and peer tutorial records, and TWC&LEC staff and student feedback conducted through the collection of data related surveys.
The continuous assessment and evaluation of peer tutors of TWC&LEC ensure that the facility has the most competent individuals’ servicing the needs of students. Failure to accomplish the above satisfactory results throughout the evaluation process at the end of each semester will disqualify applicants from the continuation and ability to serve in the capacity as a peer tutor for the following academic semester.

d) TWC&LEC staff and student feedback
e) Maintain a G.P.A. above 3.0
Condition for Graduating Students:
Graduating Students are divided into two separate categories:
Students that have graduated from their degree programs and have no other obligations or academic commitments with the UoN.Students that have graduated from their degree programs and have no other obligations or academic commitments with the UoN will be permitted to work at TWC&LEC for the maximum period of one (1) complete academic semester.
Students that have graduated from their degree programs but are working on projects, thesis, or are enrolled in graduate studies. Students that have graduated from their degree programs but are working on projects, thesis, or are enrolled in graduate studies will be permitted to work at TWC&LEC for as long as he/she are active and enrolled students within their given degree programs and meet the standard of the assessment criteria.
