Academic and Educational Excellence Award

Dr. Mohammad Abu Kausar, Associate Professor, Department of Information Systems and Dr. Kausar Yasmeen, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Finance were awarded by the University Administration for their efforts and contributions to Academic and Educational Excellence during the academic Year 2023-2024, at the Chancellor’s annual meeting held on 1st February 2024.

Field visits to Oman Across Ages Museum

On February 20, 2024, the Department of Economics and Finance from the College of Economics, Management, and Information Systems took a field trip to the prestigious Oman Across Ages Museum in Nizwa. Dr. Shamsudheen Arumathadathil organized the visit for his courses in Management of Tour Operators (MNGT305) and International Finance (FINA301), with a student’s joining from Dr. Swadhin Kumar Mondal's Econometrics class. The department faculty Dr. Kausar Yasmeen and a female supervisor from the University of Nizwa also accompanied around the 15 members students’ team. We left the University of Nizwa at 11:00 A.M. and arrived at the museum at 11:30 A.M., where we were warmly welcomed by MR. Haroon Issa Said al-Qarni and his team.

Our students were amazed by the cultural and educational exhibits at the museum. Mr. Haroon guided us through each display, sharing insights into Oman's financial history, ancient civilizations, and modern developments. The visit provided valuable academic insights for everyone, with discussions on tourism destinations and historical contexts enhanced by interactive technologies.

After wrapping up our visit around 2:30 P.M., we returned to the University of Nizwa, reaching campus by 3 P.M.

Field visits to Al Bustan Palace Hotel. Muscat

The CEMIS organized a field visit for its students of Tourism and Recreation Facilities major, to the Al Bustan Palace Hotel. Muscat on Wednesday, December 06, 2023. This visit provided an excellent opportunity to the students to observe and learn how a large hotel operates in real-time. The actual practical insights of the Hotel Operations could make students to visualize what actually they have learnt in the classroom. Twelve (12) students participated in the field visit. The students were accompanied by Dr. Mustafa Malik (course instructor) and Ms. Abrar Al Alawi (lecturer). The staff of the Al Bustan Palace gave a detailed presentation to the students about various operational areas of the Al Bustan Palace Hotel. Ms. Safa Al Balushi (Manager Learning & Development at Al Bustan Palace Hotel) hosted the students and lead the day long learning tour of the Hotel. Students were taken to various departments of the Hotel such as Lobby Area, Food and Beverages, Restaurants, Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry and the exterior landscaping. Ms. Safa Al Balushi gave an detailed presentation to our students about how a large hotel operates and what are the career opportunities for our students in the Hospitality Industry. Our students had a very elaborate interaction and exchange with Ms. Safa Al Balushi and other hotel staff.

International Conference Presentation

Dr. Salim Al Abri and Ms. Anju Ravi, faculty members from the College of Economics, Management, and Information Systems (CEMIS) at the University of Nizwa, presented a paper at the 6th International Conference on Entrepreneurship for Sustainability & Impact in Doha, Qatar. The conference was held in Doha, Qatar from October 17 to 19, 2023. It was organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship & Organizational Excellence (CEOE) and the College of Business & Economics at Qatar University. Their research paper titled 'Unveiling the Veil: Assessing SMEs’ Awareness and Engagement in Circular Economy Transition' was accepted among 220 papers out of 320 submissions. This accomplishment demonstrates CEMIS's dedication to advanced research in the fields of entrepreneurship and sustainability.

University of Nizwa participates in the Future Jobs Exhibition at Bilarab Bin Sultan School (10-12) - Bahla State - Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate

The Future Jobs Exhibition, which took place at Bilarab Bin Sultan School for Basic Education (10-12) in Bahla, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, on October 9th, witnessed active participation from the University of Nizwa, represented by the College of Economics, Management, and Information Systems. Dr. Salam Osman Fageeri, an Associate Professor in Information Systems Department, presented a comprehensive explanation of the specialization of Web Design and Information Security, along with discussing future opportunities and careers in this field in accordance with the evolving job market demands. The exhibition also saw the participation of several reputable organizations and schools in the surrounding region of Bahla, fostering communication and knowledge exchange between educational institutions and the University. At the end of the exhibition, the administration of Bilarab Bin Sultan School expressed their gratitude and appreciation to University of Nizwa management for their continuous support and constructive collaboration with the school.

Field visits to ‘Islamic Finance Forum

The faculty and students of Department of Economics and Finance from Collage of Economics, Management and Information Systems participated the Islamic Finance Forum (IFN)2023, Muscat, on September 12, 20223.It was the 8 th annual forum hosted by The REDmoney Events at Grant Millenium Hotel, Muscat from 9:15 A.M to 5 P.M. The department faculty Dr.Shamsudheen Arumathadathil and 14 students from his course Personal Finance (FINA401) participated the forum. The team were also accompanied by female supervisors from University of Nizwa. We have started around 7:30 A.M from University of Nizwa and reached around 9:15 A.M. at the Grant millennium Hotel, Muscat. All the participants were pre-registered on the website for the event and once we got refreshed started at 9:30 The 8th annual IFN Oman Forum, in collaboration with key local regulators and the leading Islamic financial institutions and intermediaries were remarkable with business delegates and academicians. The event started with keynote address given Ahmed Ali Al Maamari, Executive Vice-President, Capital Market Authority, Sultanate of Oman. Subsequently different sessions on the basis of following topics were addressed until the evening with a between sufficient break for coffee and lunch.

The UoN students were actively involved and engaged with the Forum and all the participants were expressed that the event was academically benefited to them. Once the event is over around 4:30 P.M, the team were return back to University of Nizwa and around 6 they have arrived on the campus.

CEMIS Research Seminar on Bibliometrics analysis: Nuts & bolts

Dr. Soon Jan Jan, Associate Professor at the School of Economics, Finance, and Banking, Universiti Utara Malaysia, delivered a seminar titled, “Bibliometrics analysis: Nuts & bolts”. Bibliometrics is a field of study that involves analyzing and measuring the impact and productivity of research publications. It involves using quantitative methods to evaluate scientific literature and the impact it has on the scientific community

She discuss about the Types of literature review, Bibliometric analysis, Bibliometrix & Biblioshiny and Demonstration on Biblioshiny. There were a good discussions on Topic. This was attended by many faculty members and guests.

CEMIS Student's Field Visit to Muscat International Airport

The CEMIS organized a field visit for its students of Tourism and Recreation Facilities major, to the Muscat International Airport on Monday, November 07, 2022 to get hands-on practical insights of the Passenger Ground Handling Operations at the Muscat International Airport. Seventeen (17) students participated in the field visit. The students were accompanied by Dr. Mustafa Malik, Mr. Syed Munassir, Ms. Abrar Al Alawi and Ms. Shatha Al Hinai. The staff of the Muscat International Airport gave a detailed presentation to the students about various operational areas of the Airport. Students were taken to Command Control Room, Airport Surveillance and Monitoring Area, Passenger Checking Area, Passenger Baggage Screening and Scanning area, Emergency and Fire Services Station, Aircraft Maintenance Hangar etc. where the concerned staff provided details of actual operations in their respective areas. The field visit was coordinated by the office of the Vice President Muscat International Airport.
