Achieving Cultural Literacy
Students from each of the four colleges are required to complete seven courses (21 credits) of University Requirements. As a whole, these seven core-courses constitute the inter-collegiate, University Core Curriculum. The University recognizes the age-old maxim that the pen is mightier than the sword. In other words, whether sharing new scientific breakthroughs or legislating new laws, it is through language and communication that human beings have the power to change the world. In order to empower our students to “contribute meaningfully to society”, the Core Curriculum emphasizes the necessity of integrating broadly-based cultural literacy with an aptitude for communication across traditional and multi-media. In this way, all of our graduates will be effective contributors at the intersection of English and Arabic, of Islam and information technology.
