Journalism and Media Group Organizes a Session on “How to Cover a News Story” Written by: Sundos Said Al-Mamari The Journalism and Media Group, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Languages, organized a distinguished panel discussion titled “How to Cover a News Story”, attended by Dr. Mohammed Al-Ghafri, Head of the Foreign Languages Department and patron of the event, along with a group of students and media enthusiasts. The event began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by the student Zakariya Al-Jabri, creating a spiritual and inspiring atmosphere. This was followed by a welcoming speech in which the organizers expressed their pleasure in hosting an event that combines both knowledge and enjoyment, reflecting the creativity and excellence of the students. The session featured an insightful media dialogue addressing the skills and details of news reporting. The event hosted Mr. Abdullah Al-Rubaie, English-language news broadcaster at Oman TV, and Ms. Raqia Al-Khudhayriyah, a media presenter known for her strong on-screen presence and professional delivery. The discussion was moderated by the student Sundos Al-Mamari. During the dialogue, the guests shared their professional experiences and early beginnings in the media field, as well as the challenges they faced in delivering accurate and professional news coverage, particularly when addressing international audiences. They also discussed the differences between working behind the scenes in news writing and working in front of the camera as presenters, emphasizing that the ultimate goal in both roles is to deliver the truth with credibility and clarity. The discussion also explored the distinction between preparing media content and presenting it live, highlighting the importance of communication skills, confidence, and proper preparation. The event also witnessed a special moment with the announcement of the results of the Ramadan Film Competition, where the winning teams were honored in recognition of their creativity and efforts.
