  • Teaching Philosophy: As a pharmaceutical chemistry teacher, my teaching encompasses didactic lectures, lab sessions, presentation as well as group discussions. I spend a great deal of time with my students discussing derivations, designing experiments, and analyzing data. I also use this approach while training the undergraduate and graduate students in medicinal chemistry laboratory. I believe that providing scientific basis regarding the chemistry of plants, its uses, handling analytical tools like spectroscopy and chromatography will equip my students to learn and research in the field of chemistry. I enjoyed helping students to achieve their course learning outcomes through these experiences. My teaching philosophy is grounded on the principle that students can promote their own thoughts, resolve problems with evidence based approach when outcome based learning process is employed. My ultimate goal is to ensure my students apply the skills acquired in my course to solve the never ending puzzles of chemistry.

    • [1] Phytochemistry and Complementary Medicine (Course Code : PHCY460) ، Phytochemistry is the chemistry of plant constituents or chemicals produced by the plants. In this course, students will be provided with general knowledge on extraction, isolation, purification, identification and characterisation of different drugs. Further, students will study chromatography and instrumental techniques which are in currently use for the separation, determination and quantification of drugs. In addition, the course covers the study of various compounds, including volatile oils, cardiac glycosides, terpenoids, saponins, and alkaloids. Besides, the students will gain knowledge of the different complementary and alternative medicines, their concepts, principles, applications, advantages, and disadvantages.
    • The phytochemistry lab is equipped with the essential instruments such as high vacuumed rotary evaporators, vacuum controllers, classical chromatography, extraction devices, incubator, UV spectroscopy, freezer (-20oC), microbalance, water bath shaker and plant grinding units. Phytochemistry lab has expertise for screening the novel bioactive compounds with medicinal value from indigenous medicinal plants. Qualitative & quantitative phytochemical screening of Omani medicinal plants for their novel bioactive compounds containing medicinal value and pharmacological properties.
    • [2] Advanced Instrumental Analysis (PHCY451)
    • This course covers details about the theory and application of the modern analytical tools used for the identification, quantification and structural elucidation of simple molecules and fosters practical knowledge that can be directly applied to the pharmaceutical drug analysis. Further, the course highlights important techniques for bio-molecular structure determination using different spectroscopic and chromatographic methods such as UV-visible, IR, NMR, GC-MS, HPLC etc. Vital qualitative and quantitative concepts in the context of drug discovery will be detailed.
    • [3] Graduation Project (PHCY382)
